Media Release: Launch!

We are pleased to announce the formation of The Canberra Musicians Club, an incorporated not-for-profit association whose aims and objectives are:

cultural enrichment of musicians and music lovers in the ACT and surrounding region

the development of new musical and cross-cultural arts events, and

commitment to developing the potential of young musicians and those persons socially disadvantaged within the community.

Ultimately the CMC aims to have a permanent venue/clubhouse, but in the meantime it will present a regular series of events at locations around Canberra showcasing the fantastic array of local musical talent. Besides shows emanating from the committee, CMC members will be encouraged to generate their own shows utilising the resources of the CMC (including public liability insurance, p.a., promotional networks and expertise).

The CMC will be launched at the Albert Hall on Saturday 13 September 2008 in an extraordinary twelve hour music festival incorporating folk, jazz, pop, rock, latin and choral music.

Launch! is a collaboration of four of the mainstays of the local music industry:
• Nigel McRae of Culturazi.com (formerly Loadedog.com)
• Ben Drysdale of Cardboard Charlie (Phoenix Bootleg Sessions, Live from the Underground, Cacophony etc.)
• Bill Arnett of Folkus (formerly of the Merry Muse)
• CIT’s Centre for Creative Industries

The Canberra Musicians Club invites you to support this worthy enterprise. Let’s give Canberra the contemporary music venue it needs: for its artists, for its music lovers and for its place in Australian music.
